Love, Joy, Peace...
Child Dedication

At Albany Park Baptist Church, we love celebrating children & new life! Our Child Dedication service is a special moment for parents, family, and our whole church community to come together, give thanks, and look ahead with hope and faith.

So what really is Child Dedication?
Well, it’s not about making your child a Christian — we believe that’s something that can only happen later, when they personally respond to God in faith (see Acts 2:38).

“Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Instead, this moment is about recognising God’s amazing gift of life, saying thank you, and committing — as parents and as a church — to love, support, and pray for this child as they grow.

When Jesus welcomed little children, his followers were a bit unsure — they tried to keep the kids away, but Jesus wasn’t having it. The Bible says he was indignant! He reminded everyone that:

“The kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.” (Mark 10:14)

That tells us something important: children matter deeply to God. And how we welcome, bless, and nurture them matters too.

At Its Heart, Child Dedication Is About Three Things:

Giving Thanks

Every child is a gift. Dedication is a chance to pause and recognise the wonder of what God has done — to celebrate new life and the love that surrounds it.

Making Promises

Parents and the church family together promise to guide, love, and support the child as they grow. These aren’t just nice words for the day — they’re commitments we carry into the weeks, months, and years ahead.

Seeking God’s Blessing

We pray for God’s hand on the child’s life — that they would grow, thrive, and one day come to know Jesus for themselves.

Child dedication isn’t the end of something — it’s the beginning. It’s a moment that says: we’re in this together, trusting God to do something amazing in this little one’s life.
