Believers' Baptism
Why get Baptised?
Baptism is a really special step on your journey of faith — it’s a powerful moment where God meets us with His presence and blessing, and we publicly say “yes” to following Jesus.

It marks the end of our old life and the beginning of a brand-new one with Christ. In our church, baptism usually happens by full immersion in water — a beautiful picture of being washed clean, turning away from our old ways, and rising into new life with Jesus. It’s a moment that speaks of repentance, forgiveness, and a deep connection with Christ in His death and resurrection.

Baptism is also about receiving God’s Spirit — equipping and empowering us to serve Him in the church and in the world.

Across the wider Christian family, baptism is recognised as a key moment where we receive God’s gift of grace and respond in faith. Not every church practices believer’s baptism (that is, baptism for those who can personally choose to follow Jesus). Some baptise infants instead, with parents making promises on their child’s behalf — promises that are later confirmed when the child grows up and owns their faith for themselves.
What the Bible says:
As Baptists, we deeply respect and celebrate the many different journeys people take in coming to faith. At the same time, we believe that believer’s baptism follows the pattern we see in Scripture:
1. Jesus set the example – He was baptised by John the Baptist (Matthew 3:13–17; Mark 1:9–11; Luke 3:21–22).
2. Jesus commanded it – In the Great Commission, Jesus said, “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit” (Matthew 28:18–20).
3. The early church practised it – On the day of Pentecost, Peter said, “Repent and be baptised, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit” (Acts 2:37–38).

All through the book of Acts, we see stories of people hearing the good news about Jesus, choosing to believe, and then being baptised. It’s a clear and joyful expression of faith — and we love celebrating that together here at Albany Park Baptist Church. If you would like to discuss baptism further please talk with Nat or Glenis
